Belgian Adams actually had good performances in lower formulae, including a runner up position in F-3 in 1992, and the British F2 (Formula 3000) crown in 1993. The latter was a dubious achievement, as that series was by then very poorly supported indeed. However this was not enough to raise the attention of Formula 1 team managers, so Adams was only able to make it to the big time on the strength of private sponsorship money. The recipient was the moribund Lotus team, in its final year of operation, 1994. Adam’s only finish was 16th.
