Crawford first cut his teeth in British club racing,  eventually moving to more serious waters, in Formula 3. He first got involved in Sports Cars in 1968, where he struck a long lasting friendship with specialist Alain de Cadenet. It was the latter who propitiated Chris’ two F-1 drives in 1971. A Brabham BT33 was bought and prepared for Chris, who was entered in the Canadian and USA G.P.s. He did not start at Mosport, but did so in Watkins Glen, starting 30th, and retiring. Nothing more was heard of Chris in Formula 1, but he did eventually win the 1973 European two liter championship, continued racing in sports and touring cars, achieving some success in Le Mans with old buddy De Cadenet.
