EDWARDS, GUY Born 12/30/1942, Macclesfield, Cheshire, England Starts:11 Points: 0 Wins:0 Poles:0 Fastest Laps:0 IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE OR INITIATE A DISCUSSION ON THIS DRIVERS' CAREER, CLICK HERE Edwards was known as somewhat of a sponsor guru in the early 90’s, but his copybook was somewhat botched when he failed to deliver for Lotus. As a F-1 racer, Edwards was one of Hill’s drivers for the 1974 season, having raced in F5000 in previous seasons. He did manage a 7th and 8th place for the team, but before the end of the year had dropped out of favor from the team. He came back in 1976, hiring one of the Heskeths with the politically incorrect sponsors Penthouse (girlie magazine) and Rizla (rolling paper), but although he often qualified, the partnership was not successful. He gained some notoriety as one of the drivers that saved Niki Lauda from a burning wreck at the Nurburgring. Edwards’s last F1 foray was driving the hapless BRM P207 in the British GP. The car did not qualify, and that is the last that was heard from Edwards. He did win in Sports cars and in the British F1 series, but never got enough nerve to try F1 again.
