Evans had been F5000 champion in 1974, and had performed well in the lower formulae. He was a good driver, but was always in the wrong place, at the wrong time in all of his F-1 attempts. First, he was hired by BRM to drive its P201 in the 1975 season. The team was a shadow of its former self, and the best Evans did was 9th in Belgium, never qualifying better than 20th. He was hired by Lotus to race in South Africa and Long Beach, but here was another team that was very much in disarray in the early part of 1976. The car was very uncompetitive at that stage, and Evans got a 10th place in Kyalamy, and a DNQ in California. His last attempt to crack at F-1 was driving one of RAM’s BT 44 Brabhams, and he actually did better than most people who rented rides in the team, qualifying 22nd out of 30. However he retired in the race, and was back to the world of British F1 and Sports cars before folding his career.
