So much for Irish luck. Magee was one of seemingly hundreds of Brits looking for a place in the sun during the 70’s, going up through the ranks. His F-1 career was limited to a start in the Swedish GP in 1975, driving for Frank Williams, qualifying ahead of 4 other cars and finishing 14th. He did attempt to qualify a RAM Racing Brabham BT44 in the French GP of 1976, to no avail. This was it. However, that year Magee had an excellent performance in the Shellsport Group 8 Championship that replaced F-5000, being outscored only by fellow Brit David Purley, and continued racing in British events in the following years.
