ZORZI, RENZO Born 12/12/1946, Ziano di Fiemme, near Turin Italy Starts:7 Points: 1 Wins:0 Poles:0 Fastest Laps:0 IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE OR INITIATE A DISCUSSION ON THIS DRIVERS' CAREER, CLICK HERE Winning the Monaco Formula 3 support race has always opened Formula 1 doors. Although many Monaco Formula 3 winners went on to become champions and Grand Prix winners, quite a few were obviously lacking in the talent department, and Monaco was their absolute 15 minutes of fame. Such is the case of Zorzi, a relative unknown, born on the same day as Emerson Fittipaldi, who won the 1975 Monaco race, in spite of talented opposition. As a result of this win, Zorzi got some Formula 1 opportunities between 1975 and 1977. His initial outing was driving the Williams FW03 in the 1975 Italian Grand Prix. He qualified 22nd and finished 14th, 6 laps behind. Still, Williams gave him another outing, in the Brazilian Grand Prix of 1976. Renzo qualified 17th and finished 9th, and he was dropped from the team after that. In 1977 he was hired by Shadow in the early part of the season. He retired in the balmy Argentine race, and in Brazil managed to get his single point, from 6th place. It should be noted that only 7 cars finished the race, though. His next three and final Formula 1 starts resulted in retirement, and after Spain, Shadow replaced Zorzi by the more promising Riccardo Patrese, who from the start showed much more pace. Zorzi continued to race, mostly in Sports Cars, without much distinction.
